To fit head circumference: 55-57 cm [21-22″].
Materials and tools
Yarn: Drops MERINO EXTRA FINE. 100% wool. 50 g [1.8 oz] = 105 m [115 yds]. Colour 44. 2 skeins.
Circular knitting needles 4 mm [US 6], 40 cm [16″] long.
Double pointed needles 4 mm [US 6].
Sewing needle.
Gauge (Tension)
In 1×1 ribbing:
10 cm, 4” = 34 stitches, 32 rows.
In Stitch no.2:
10 cm, 4” = 32 stitches, 32 rows.
Instructions
Work in pattern (as established) means that you will work as previously stated, without changing the position of the pattern.
BOR – beginning of the round.
RS – right side.
WS – wrong side.
1×1 ribbing: * knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch. Repeat from * to the end of the round.
Stitch no.2 (for working in the round):



Hat
Cast on 136 stitches using the long tail cast on technique. Join for working in the round.
Work 48 rounds in 1×1 ribbing.
Turn the work and continue working in the round in opposite direction. So your cast on edge will be right-side up.
Work 48 rounds in Stitch no.2.
Decreases:
Round 1: * knit 2 stitches together (left leaning), purl 2 stitches. Repeat from * to the end of the round.
Round 2: work in pattern (knit the knits and purl the purls).
You can change to double pointed needles or continue working with circular needles using the magic loop method.
Round 3: * knit 2 stitches together (left leaning), purl 1 stitch. Repeat from * to the end of the round.
Round 4: work in pattern (knit the knits and purl the purls).
Round 5: * knit 2 stitches together (left leaning). Repeat from * to the end of the round.
Cut the yarn. Close up the top of the hat: using the sewing needle thread the yarn through remaining stitches. Pull the yarn.
Weave in the loose ends.
