Sizes

To fit head circumference: 55-57 cm [21-22″].

You will need

Yarn: Aran (8 wpi) .ALIZE Mohair Classic, approx. 140 m [153 yds].

Circular knitting needles 6 mm [US 10], 40 cm [16″] long.

Double pointed knitting needles 6 mm [US 10].

Sewing tapestry needle.

Gauge

In Stockinette stitch:

10 cm [4”] = 17 stitches, 22 rows.

Instructions

Stitch no.1 (for working in the round):

  • Round 1: K1, P3.
  • Round 2: K2, P1, K1.

BOR – beginning of the round.

K – knit.

P – purl.

K2togL – knit 2 stitches together left leaning.

Hat

With circular needles, cast on 80 stitches.

Join for working in the round and place BOR marker.

Work 30 cm [12″] in Stitch no.1, ending on Round 1.

Decrease:

You can work with double pointed needles, or with circular needles 80 cm [32″] long, using the magic loop method.

Round 1: {K2togL, P1, K1} repeat to the end of the round.

Round 2: {K1, P2} repeat to the end of the round.

Round 3: {K2togL, K1} repeat to the end of the round.

Round 4: {K1, P1} to the end of the round.

Round 5: K2togL to the end of the round.

Close up the top of the hat:

Cut the yarn leaving the tail approx. 30 cm [12″] long.

Using the sewing needle, thread the yarn through remaining stitches, leaving a small loop in the beginning.

Thread the yarn through the loop.

Pull the yarn.

Weave in the loose ends.
