Size
To fit head circumference 55-57 cm [21-22″].
Materials and tools
Yarn: Nako SPAGHETTI. 25% wool, 75% acrylic. 100 g [3.5 oz] = 60 m [65 yds]. Colour 3079. 2 skeins.
Circular knitting needles 8 mm [US 11], 40 cm [16″] long.
Double pointed needles 8 mm [US 11].
4 stitch markers.
Gauge (Tension)
In 1×1 ribbing:
10 cm [4”] = 16 stitches, 17 rows.
Instructions
Work in pattern (as established) means that you will work as previously stated, without changing the position of the pattern.
BOR – beginning of the round.
PM – place marker.
RS – right side.
WS – wrong side.
Hat
Cast on 72 stitches, using the long tail cast on technique. Join for working in the round and place the BOR marker.
Work 40 rounds (23.5 cm) [9¼”] in 1×1 ribbing.
Decreases:
Round 1: work 13 stitches in pattern (knit the knits and purl the purls), * purl 3 stitches together, PM, work 3 stitches in pattern, PM, purl 3 stitches together *, work 27 stitches in pattern, repeat from * to *, work 14 stitches in pattern.
Round 2: work in pattern (knit the knits and purl the purls).
You can change to double pointed needles or continue working with circular needles using the magic loop method.
Round 3: * work in pattern until you have 3 stitches before the marker, purl 3 stitches together, slip the marker, work in pattern to the marker, slip the marker, purl 3 stitches together *, repeat from * to * 1 more time, work in pattern to the end of the round.
Round 4: work in pattern (knit the knits and purl the purls).
Repeat rounds 3-4 until you have 24 stitches on the needles.
Next round: repeat round 3. There should be 16 stitches left on your needles.
Cut the yarn. Close up the top of the hat: using the sewing needle thread the yarn through remaining stitches. Pull the yarn.
Weave in the loose ends.
