knitting pattern


The Rachel hat is worked in the round, from the bottom up.
Size
To fit head circumference 55-57 cm [21-22″].
Materials and tools
Yarn: Alize MERINO ROYAL. 100% wool. 50 g [1.8 oz] = 100 m [109 yds]. 3 skeins.
Circular knitting needles 4 mm [US 6], 40 cm [16″] long.
Double pointed needles 4 mm [US 6].
Sewing needle.
Gauge (Tension)
In Stockinette stitch:
10 cm [4”] = 23 stitches, 30 rows.
Instructions
Work in pattern (as established) means that you will work as previously stated, without changing the position of the pattern.
BOR – beginning of the round.
K – knit.
K2togL – knit 2 stitches together left leaning.
P – purl.
P2tog – purl 2 stitches together.
RS – right side.
SM – slip the marker.
WS – wrong side.
Stitch no.1:





Hat
Cast on 136 stitches using the long tail cast on technique. Join for working in the round and place the BOR marker.
Work 24.5 cm [9¾”] in Stitch no.1, ending on row 2 of the pattern.
Decreases:
Round 1: * P2tog, slip 1 stitch with yarn in back, P1 *, repeat from * to * to the end of the round.
You can change to double pointed needles or continue working with circular needles using the magic loop method.
Round 2: * P1, K1, P1 *, repeat from * to * to the end of the round.
Round 3: P1, * slip 1 stitch with yarn in back, P2tog *, repeat from * to * until you have 2 stitches left, slip 1 stitch with yarn in back, P1.
Round 4: P1, K2togL to the end of the round.
Cut the yarn. Close up the top of the hat: using the sewing needle thread the yarn through remaining stitches. Pull the yarn.
Weave in the loose ends.
