Foot length:

22.5 cm [8.8″] – EU-35, US-4, UK-2.
23 cm [9.06″] – EU-36, US-5, UK-3.
23.5 cm [9.25″] – EU-37, US-6, UK-4.
24 cm [9.45″] – EU-38, US-7, UK-5.
24.5 cm [9.65″] – EU-39, US-8, UK-6.
25 cm [9.84″] – EU-40, US-9, UK-7.

You will need

Yarn: Nako SUPER INCI. 25% wool, 75% acrylic. 100 g [3.5 oz] = 260 m [284 yds]. 1 skein.

Circular or double pointed knitting needles 3 mm [US 2.5] and 3.5 mm [US 4].

Stitch markers.

Sewing needle.

Gauge

In Stockinette stitch using larger needles:

10 cm [4”] = 23 stitches, 34 rows.

Instructions

Work in pattern (as established) means that you will work as previously stated, without changing the position of the pattern.

BOR – beginning of the round.

K – knit.

K2togL – knit 2 stitches together left leaning.

K2togR – knit 2 stitches together right leaning.

P – purl.

RS – right side.

SM – slip the marker.

WS wrong side.

Stockinette stitch: knit to the end of the round.

Socks (follow the instructions twice)

You can work with double pointed needles or with the circular needles using the magic loop method.

With smaller needles cast on 48 stitches. Join for working in the round and place the BOR marker.

  • If you work with double pointed needles distribute the stitches so you have 12 stitches on each needle.
  • If you work with circular needles distribute the stitches so you have 24 stitches on both of your needles.

Cuff:

Work 4 rounds in Stockinette stitch.

Next round: SM, * yarn over, K2togR *, repeat from * to * to the end of the round.

Work 4 rounds in Stockinette stitch.

Fold the cuff with the wrong sides facing each other. Align the cast on edge with the working stitches. * Pick up 1 stitch from the cast on edge and place it onto the left needle, K2togR (knit the picked up stitch together with the next stitch). Repeat from * to the end of the round.

Change to larger needles.

Next round: SM, * K2, P2, work Stitch no.2, P2, K2 *, repeat from * to * 1 more time.

Continue working as established until the sock measures 12.5 cm [5″] from the cuff.

Shape the heel:

You will use the wrap and turn technique:

  • wrap the knit stitch (RS) – slip the stitch from the left needle to the right needle with yarn in back, bring the yarn forward, slip the stitch back to the left needle, bring the yarn to the back;
  • wrap the purl stitch (WS) – slip the stitch from the left needle to the right needle with yarn in front, bring the yarn to the back, slip the stitch back to the left needle, bring the yarn forward.

Row 1 (RS): SM, work 24 stitches in pattern, K23, wrap next stitch, turn the work.

Row 2 (WS): P22, wrap next stitch, turn the work.

Row 3 (RS): K until you have 1 stitch before the wrap, wrap next stitch, turn the work.

Row 4 (WS): P until you have 1 stitch before the wrap, wrap next stitch, turn the work.

Repeat rows 3-4 6 more times. You should have 8 stitches between the wraps. That will be 16 rows.

Row 17 (RS): K8, (K the wrapped stitch together with the wrap) repeat 7 more times, SM, work 24 stitches in pattern, (K the wrapped stitch together with the wrap) repeat 7 more times, K8, wrap next stitch, turn the work.

Row 18 (WS): P8, wrap next stitch, turn the work.

Row 19 (RS): K to the wrap, K the wrapped stitch together with the wrap, wrap next stitch, turn the work.

Row 20 (WS): P to the wrap, P the wrapped stitch together with the wrap, wrap next stitch, turn the work.

Repeat rows 19-20 6 more times.

Next row (RS): K22, K the wrapped stitch together with the wrap.

Now, you will work in the round again.

Next round: SM, work 24 stitches in pattern, K the wrapped stitch together with the wrap, K to the end of the round.

Continue working as established until the sock measures 3.5 cm [1¼”] shorter than the length of your foot, measuring from the back of the heel.

Toe:

Round 1: SM, K24, place marker, K24.

Round 2 (decrease): * SM, K1, K2togL, K until you have 3 stitches before the marker, K2togR, K1 *, repeat from * to * 1 more time.

Round 3: K to the end of the round.

Repeat rounds 2-3 1 more time.

Then, repeat round 2 until you have 16 stitches left.

Sew the toe with the Kitchener stitch.

Weave in the loose ends.
