Sizes
To fit bust circumference:
Size 1 – 82-87 cm [32-34”]
Size 2 – 92-97 cm [36-38”]
Size 3 – 102-107 cm [40-42”]
Materials and tools
Yarn: Drops BRUSHED ALPACA SILK. 77% alpaca, 23% silk. 25 g [0.9 oz] = 140 m [153 yds]. Colour 14. 5(6-7) skeins.
Circular knitting needles 5 mm [US 8], 80 cm [32″] long.
Double pointed needles 5 mm [US 8].
Sewing needle.
Stitch markers.
Gauge (Tension)
In Stockinette stitch:
10 cm [4”] = 17 stitches, 24 rows.
Instructions
The instructions are written for the smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus (). Example: size 1(size 2-size 3). If there is only one number given, it applies to all sizes.
Edge stitches:
- knit the first and the last stitch of the right-side row,
- purl the first and the last stitch of the wrong-side row.
Work in pattern (as established) means that you will work as previously stated, without changing the position of the pattern.
BOR – beginning of the round.
RS – right side.
WS – wrong side.
Stockinette stitch:
For working in the round:
knit
For working back and forth:
- RS: knit
- WS: purl
Body
With circular needles, cast on 168(184-200) stitches, using the long tail cast on technique.
Join for working in the round. Place the BOR marker.
Work 76 rounds in Stockinette stitch.
Separate back and front
Using the sewing needle, place 84(92-100) stitches on hold on a waste yarn.
Turn the work and start making the back yoke. Work back and forth, starting from the WS row.
Back yoke
Work 29(33-35) rows in Stockinette stitch, ending on a WS row.
Shape the shoulders:
Next, you will use the wrap and turn technique for shaping the shoulders:
Row 1 (RS): knit until you have 3 stitches left, slip the next stitch knitwise and wrap the working yarn around it, turn the work.
Row 2 (WS): slip the wrapped stitch, purl until you have 3 stitches left, slip the next stitch purlwise and wrap the working yarn around it, turn the work.
Row 3 (RS): slip the wrapped stitch, knit until you have 3 stitches before the wrap, slip the next stitch knitwise and wrap the working yarn around it, turn the work.
Row 4 (WS): slip the wrapped stitch, purl until you have 3 stitches before the wrap, slip the next stitch purlwise and wrap the working yarn around it, turn the work.
Repeat rows 3-4 until you have 24(26-28) stitches between the wraps.
Next row (RS): knit to the end of the row, knit the wrapped stitches together with the wrap.
Next row (WS): purl to the end of the row, purl the wrapped stitches together with the wrap.
Cast off.
Front
With the RS facing you, place 84(92-100) stitches of the front onto the needles again.
Work 12(16-18) rows in Stockinette stitch.
Shape the neckline:
Row 1 (RS): knit 42(46-50) stitches, turn the work.
Next, you will work two parts of the front separately. Leave remaining stitches on the needle for now.
Row 2 (WS): purl to the end of the row.
Row 3 (RS, decrease row): knit until you have 5 stitches left, knit 2 stitches together (right leaning), knit to the end of the row.
Row 4 (WS): purl to the end of the row.
Repeat rows 3-4 until you have 30(33-36) stitches left.
✓✓Continue working in Stockinette stitch until you have 50(56-62) rows from the underarms.
Cast off. ✓✓
With the RS of the front facing you, join yarn to remaining stitches.
Row 1 (RS): knit to the end of the row.
Row 2 (WS): purl to the end of the row.
Row 3 (RS, decrease row): knit the edge stitch, knit 2 stitches, knit 2 stitches together (left leaning), knit to the end of the row.
Row 4 (WS): purl to the end of the row.
Repeat rows 3-4 until you have 30(33-36) stitches left.
Repeat from ✓✓ to ✓✓.
Sew the shoulder seams.
Sleeves
There are two ways for making the sleeves. You can work with double pointed needles or with the circular needles using the magic loop method.
With RS facing you and beginning from the underarm, pick up 58(66-72) stitches around the armhole edge. Place the BOR marker.
Work 110(106-102) rounds in Stockinette stitch.
Next round (decrease round): * knit 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together. Repeat from * until you have 1(0-0) stitch left, knit 1(0-0) stitch.
Cast off.
Weave in the loose ends.
