Sizes
Chest circumference of the finished garment:
- Size 1 – 91 cm [36″].
- Size 2 – 94 cm [37″].
- Size 3 – 97 cm [38″].
The sweater is designed to have 6-8 cm [2¼-3¼”] of positive ease. Choose the size according to your chest circumference, plus the desired ease.


You will need
Yarn: Sport (12 wpi). Approx. 1155(1300-1445) m [1265(1420-1580) yds].
Circular knitting needles 3.5 mm [US 4], 80 cm [32″] and 40 cm [16″] long.
Circular knitting needles 3 mm [US 2.5], 80 cm [32″] long.
Sewing tapestry needle.
Stitch marker.
Row counter.
Tension
In Stockinette stitch:
10 cm [4”] = 26 stitches, 32 rows.
Instructions
The instructions are written for the smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus (). Example: size 1(size 2-size 3). If there is only one number given, it applies to all sizes.
2×2 ribbing: K2, P2.
Stockinette stitch:
- RS – knit;
- WS – purl.
I-cord bind off:
- Cast on 4 stitches, using the cable cast on method.
- K3.
- K2togL.
- Pass 4 stitches back onto the left needle.
- Repeat steps 1-4.
Tubular bind off for 2×2 ribbing:
- Cut the yarn, leaving the tail approx. 3-4 times longer, than the bind off edge.
- Make sure all your stitches are turned purlwise.
- Insert the tapestry needle into the first knit stitch, from the back to the front, slip that stitch from the main needle, pull the yarn.
- Insert the tapestry needle into the first purl stitch on the right needle, from the back to the front, slip that stitch from the main needle, pull the yarn.
- Insert the tapestry needle into the slipped knit stitch, from the front to the back, and into the next knit stitch, from the back to the front, slip the stitch from the main needle, pull the yarn.
- Insert the tapestry needle into the slipped purl stitch, from the front to the back, and into the next purl stitch, from the back to the front, slip the stitch from the main needle, pull the yarn.
- Insert the tapestry needle into the slipped knit stitch, from the front to the back, and into the next knit stitch, from the back to the front (skipping the purl stitch), pull the yarn without slipping the stitches from the main needle.
- Insert the tapestry needle into the slipped purl stitch, from the front to the back, and into the next purl stitch, from the back to the front, slip the purl stitch and the knit stitch from the main needle, pull the yarn.
- Repeat steps 5-8 to the end of the round.
Simple (regular) bind off:
- Work 2 stitches in pattern.
- Pull the 2nd stitch on the right needle over the 1st one.
- Work 1 stitch in pattern.
- Repeat steps 2-3.
Body
With circular needles 80 cm [32″] long, cast on 224(232-240) stitches (+1 stitch to join in round).
Join for working in the round and place BOR marker.
Work 5 cm [2″] in 2×2 ribbing.
Then, work in Stockinette stitch until the work measures 29(28-27) cm [11½(11-10½)”] from cast-on.
Back yoke
Row 1 (RS): slip BOR marker, K112(116-120) (i.e. half of your stitches), turn the work.
Row 2 (WS): P to the marker.
Continue working back and forth, in Stockinette stitch until you have 56(62-68) rows from the underarms.
Bind off.
Front yoke
With RS facing, join the yarn to remaining stitches.
Work 20(26-32) rows in Stockinette stitch.
Shape the neckline:
Next row (RS): K edge, K37(39-41), bind off 36 stitches, K to the end of the row.
Now, you will work two parts of the front yoke separately.
Right front:
Row 1 (WS): P until you have 1 stitch left, slip 1 stitch with yarn in front.
Row 2 (RS): bind off 2 stitches, K to the end of the row.
Repeat rows 1-2 1 more time.
Next 31 rows: work in Stockinette stitch, ending on WS row.
Bind off.
Left front:
With WS facing, join the yarn to remaining stitches.
Row 1 (WS): P to the end of the row.
Row 2 (RS): K until you have 1 stitch left, slip 1 stitch with yarn in back.
Row 3 (WS): bind off 2 stitches, P to the end of the row.
Repeat rows 2-3 1 more time.
Next 30 rows: work in Stockinette stitch, ending on WS row.
Bind off.
Sleeves
Sew the shoulder seams.
Pick up and knit 80(88-96) stitches around the armhole edge.
Place BOR marker.
Work 13 cm [5″] in Stockinette stitch.
Next round (decrease): K1, K2togL, K until you have 3 stitches to the end of the row, K2togR, K1.
Repeat the decrease round every following 17(15-11)th round 5(5-7) more times. 68(76-80) stitches on the needles.
Continue working in Stockinette stitch until the sleeve measures 5 cm [2″] shorter, than the desired length.
Sizes 2-3 only: on the last row before the cuff decrease 8 stitches evenly around (via K2tog). (68-72) stitches on the needles.
Cuff:
Work 5 cm [2″] in 2×2 ribbing.
Bind off.
You can use the tubular bind off for 2×2 ribbing, as shown in the video, or a simple bind off .
Finishing
With smaller needles, pick up and knit 155 stitches around the neckline edge, starting from the center of the back neck.
Bind off, using the i-cord method.
Weave in the loose ends.
