knitting pattern


The Ivy sweater is knitted seamlessly, from the top down. The collar and yoke are worked in the round. Then, the back yoke is worked in rows to provide a better fit. The body and the sleeves are worked in the round.
Sizes
Chest circumference of the finished garment:
- Size 1 – 83 cm [32½”]
- Size 2 – 90 cm [35½”]
- Size 3 – 98 cm [38½”]
The sweater is designed to have 1-0 cm [½-0″] of negative ease. Choose the size according to your chest circumference, plus the desired ease.
You will need
Yarn: Aran (8 wpi). Approx. 920 (1070-1220) m [1006(1170-1334) yds]. Suggested yarn: GAZZAL Baby Wool XL.
Circular knitting needles 4.5 mm [US 7], 80 cm [32″] and 40 cm [16″] long.
Double pointed knitting needles 4.5 mm [US 7].
Sewing tapestry needle.
4 stitch markers.
Gauge
In Stockinette stitch:
10 cm [4”] = 21 stitches, 26 rows.
Instructions
The instructions are written for the smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus (). Example: size 1(size 2-size 3). If there is only one number given, it applies to all sizes.
Edge stitches:
- slip the first stitch of the row;
- purl the last stitch of the row.
Work in pattern (as established) means that you will work as previously stated, without changing the position of the pattern.
BOR – beginning of the round.
K – knit.
K1tbl – knit 1 stitch through back loop.
K2togL – knit 2 stitches together left leaning.
K2togR – knit 2 stitches together right leaning.
P – purl.
P1tbl – purl 1 stitch through back loop.
PM – place marker.
RS – right side.
SM – slip the marker.
WS – wrong side.
Seed stitch:



Collar
Cast on 92 stitches, join for working in round and place BOR marker.
Round 1: {K1, P1} repeat to the end of the round.
Rounds 2-16: {K1tbl, P1tbl} repeat to the end of the round.
Next round: fold the collar in half to WS, {pick up 1 knit stitch from cast-on edge and place it on the left needle, K2tog, K1} repeat to the end of the round.
Yoke
Next round: SM, K37, PM, K9, PM, K37, PM, K until you have 1 stitch before BOR marker.
Round 1: {M1R, K1, SM, K1, M1L, work in Seed stitch until you have 1 stitch before next marker} repeat 3 more times.
Round 2: K1, SM, work in pattern (without increases) until you have 1 stitch before BOR marker (slip other markers as you come to them).
Repeat rounds 1-2 until you have 87(95-103) stitches for back and front, and 59(67-75) stitches for both sleeves.
Now, you will work just the stitches of the back, in rows. This will give a better fit to your sweater by making the back slightly higher than the front.
Row 1 (RS): K1, slip BOR marker, work in pattern to next marker, turn the work.
Row 2 (WS): slip edge stitch, work in pattern to the marker.
Rows 3-8: slip edge stitch, work in pattern until you have 1 stitch left, P edge stitch.
Next row (RS): slip edge stitch, work in pattern to the end of the row.
Separate back, front and sleeves
Using the sewing needle, place 59(67-75) stitches of the sleeve on hold onto a waste yarn.
Cast on 5 stitches.
Work in pattern 87(95-103) stitches of the front.
Place 59(67-75) stitches of the sleeve on hold onto a waste yarn.
Cast on 5 stitches and place BOR marker.
Body
184(200-216) stitches on the needles.
Work in pattern until the body measures 26 cm [10¼”] from underarms.
Next 12 rounds: {K1tbl, P1tbl} repeat to the end of the round.
Bind off.
Left sleeve
Place 59(67-75) held stitches back on the needles.
Join the yarn.
Pick up and knit 9 stitches, place BOR marker, pick up and knit 5 stitches.
✓ 73(81-89) stitches on the needles.
Work in pattern to BOR marker.
Next round (decrease): SM, K1, K2togL, work in pattern until you have 3 stitches before BOR marker, K2togR, K1.
Repeat the decrease round every following 9(7-6)th round until you have 53(55-59) stitches left.
Then, continue working in pattern until the sleeve measures 5 cm [2″] shorter, than the desired length.
Cuff:
Round 1: K2tog, P1tbl, {K1tbl, P1tbl} repeat to the end of the round.
Rounds 2-12: {K1tbl, P1tbl} repeat to the end of the round.
Bind off. ✓
Right sleeve
Place 59(67-75) held stitches back on the needles.
Join the yarn.
Pick up and knit 5 stitches, place BOR marker, pick up and knit 9 stitches.
Repeat from ✓ to ✓ as given for the Left sleeve.
Finishing
Weave in the loose ends.
