Sizes
Chest circumference of the finished garment:
- Size 1 – 105 cm [41¼”]
- Size 2 – 114 cm [45″]
- Size 3 – 123 cm [48½”]
The vest is designed to have 20-22 cm [8-9″] of positive ease. Choose the size according to your chest circumference, plus the desired ease.
You will need
Yarn: Worsted (9 wpi). Approx. 650(755-860) m [710(825-940) yds].
Circular knitting needles 6 mm [US 10], 80 cm [32″], 60 cm [24″] and 40 cm [16″] long.
Stitch marker.
Waste yarn.
Tension
In Stockinette stitch:
10 cm [4”] = 17 stitches, 24 rows.
Instructions
The instructions are written for the smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus (). Example: size 1(size 2-size 3). If there is only one number given, it applies to all sizes.
Stockinette stitch:
- RS – knit;
- WS – purl.
Abbreviations
BOR – beginning of the round
RS – right side
WS – wrong side
K – knit
P – purl
K2togL – knit 2 stitches together left leaning.
K2togR – knit 2 stitches together right leaning.
Body
Cast on 176(192-208) stitches (+1 stitch to join in round).
Join for working in the round and place BOR marker.
Rounds 1-14: K2, P2.
Then, K until the work measures 31 cm [12¼”] from the cast-on.
Separate back and front
Turn the work, P88(96-104), turn the work.
Back yoke
Row 1 (RS): K edge, K to the end of the row, K edge.
Row 2 (WS): P edge, P to the end of the row, P edge.
Continue working in Stockinette stitch until you have 44(46-52) rows from the underarms.
Next row (RS): K edge, K28(31-34), bind off 30(32-34) stitches, K to the end of the row.
Using the sewing needle, place the stitches of the shoulders on hold onto a waste yarn.
Front yoke
With WS facing, join the yarn to remaining stitches.
Separate right front and left front: P edge, P42(46-50), bind off 2 stitches, P to the end of the row.
Left front
Row 1 (RS, decrease): K edge, K until you have 4 stitches left, K2togL, K1, K edge.
Row 2 (WS): P to the end of the row.
Repeat rows 1-2 until you have 29(32-35) stitches left.
✓ Then, continue working in Stockinette stitch until you have 44(46-52) rows from the underarms.
Place remaining stitches onto a waste yarn. ✓
Right front
With RS facing, join the yarn to remaining stitches.
Row 1 (RS, decrease): K edge, K1, K2togR, K to the end of the row.
Row 2 (WS): P to the end of the row.
Repeat rows 1-2 until you have 29(32-35) stitches left.
Then, repeat from ✓ to ✓ as given for the Left front.
Armhole edging
Place the stitches of the shoulders back on the needles and sew the shoulder seams.
With RS facing and 40 cm [16″] circular needles, pick up and knit 68(76-80) stitches around the armhole edge.
Next 8 rounds: K2, P2.
Bind off.
Neckline edging
With RS facing and 60 cm [24″] circular needles, starting from the center of the front neckline, pick up and knit 100(108-116) stitches.
Place BOR marker.
Round 1: {K1, P2, K1} repeat to the end of the round.
Rounds 2-8: K2togL, work in pattern until you have 2 stitches before BOR marker, K2togR.
Bind off.
Finishing
Weave in the loose ends.
